That mo3 bumpin
Yeah, the body techs at this shop I manage love to party.
What is srs?
Supplemental restraint system. Airbags
What big Pete said.
maybe one and a half, three is like there was a ghost in the wires that had to be worked out
To a customer. But I work with insurance claims mostly and they don't complain as long as I'm able to show the process. I charge them 3 hours for diagnostic whenever I need to figure something out.
Thank u for sharing I appreciate it.
yep . I am tech and still working since 1973. problem we are having is the new techs can't get off their phones. And biggest problem is dealers don't want to pay. Charge 200 bucks an hr and pay techs 20 . Maybe 32 if your lucky. We need to Unionize .
They are prolly leaving because the arrogance , favoritism and f##kjobs are unsurpassed.
I have a 2004 Chevy venture when I go to flip the wipers on and instantly blows the fuse I just started to do this after I replaced the wiper motor could it be the latest news relay it sounds like it just might I want to try to get another wiper fuse relay the next day so anyone can help appreciate any feedback
It's great but I need to know where my is on a 86 Chey.
Flat rate for diagnostic techs sucks .. for the butchers and thieves it works
Let me save you time .. low pay working conditions … no shop equipment no pensions medical insurance .. dealers and independent shops are slave drivers
There is a shortage and that's a fact yes its harder to find a good employer that's for a different day but the hardest thing it to find fellow technicians helping each other and that's on us let's all help each other out
This is an older video, but instead of waiting for diag time I would just do the diag and withhold the answer until it was approved. That way I could keep moving. 90% of the time it's something easy that you've done a billion times. Maybe if I had to remove a lot of stuff I would wait for time, but like I said that was so rare. My service advisors know how I do things and they would be sure to either sell the time upfront or let the customer know there might be a charge and if they're OK with it. That's the way I did things for years and I can count on one hand how many times I got bit. Just keep your feet going and you can make money
What is the blue wire that is connected with the red butt connector on it
It's been a while since I worked on this car. My guess it's something done from a previous owner.
The preflinch
Each shop should have a in-house training guy....
The companies don't want honest people working on cars!
Awesome tips THANK YOU! Before watching your video, I took my son’s car to a mechanic and they said bad compressor….$ 600 I tested the relay following the steps in your video, bad relay Replaced with new one .. AC running now …. 🏆 for you!!!!!!!
Omg why this is me today ☺️ I’m so happy right now two weeks ago a mechanic lied and told me that it was my AC compressor. I knew that wasn’t true because it would come on and there was other stuff leading to this so that just didn’t make any sense fast-forward. I took the meter and tested the relay boom this fixed my problem. I’m so happy 🎉
Lol to clean with brake cleaner if u ain't got a parts washer
Another thing is there is no growth for techs. I have wanted to be more than a tech. But for us in the auto tech industry there is not much else you can do besides, advisor, a manger or parts. And trying to get into that it’s almost impossible since in my experience dealers want you as a tech only. Specially since there is a tech shortage.
I just work by myself
Holy crap....... All i read is blah blah blah.....whine whine whine....... 20 years ago, where i was working in dealership....it was cash flowing out the ears......... Today, i understand that inflation keeps going up while the pay stays the same. (Dont talk poltics because i dont play that 1 sided arguement BS....its a rich man game and none of us are rich...so dont go there) Im at a school district and it doesnt pay that well. I just like the time off cause of my family. But RTA pays way more and TX DOT pays even more. No flat rate.....RTA gives vouchers for tools......tx dot supplies the tools........both give training. I know guys in flate rate making $45/hr and are killing it. The only people i see complaining are the ones who dont go and get it. They want it how they want it, instead of going where the cash is. Some people commute 30 to 1 hour but thats the only complaint. There is money to be made in mechanics.........learn how to make that cheese, especially while youre young. Stop listening to the whiners and drama queens.......pay attention to the ones who got it going on.
What happens if the relay switch is fine, but no juice going to the starter
Flat rate isn't killing anything, lazy, bad techs are killing it
And,,nobody wants to work
..for slave wages
Not trye
Stagger your splices
That's one thing I've never done. Never had issues doing things this way.
It is what we do in aviation when we splice in a new harness.
@chrisgoodwin7667 but do you understand why you or others say to do that? I'm just curious cause I know it's no real beneficial reason. If I was hourly I would take that extra time to do it though. I'm flat rate though.
Yes, I do know why. I worked in aviation for over 20 years. I am not trying to give a lesson or explanation. We do have a reason why. You do you, looks like you’re doing good work.
@chrisgoodwin7667 I was just curious is all. And I appreciate it!
Where you have your heatshrink tubes on your each cable?
I don't fully understand your question.
@@TunerZen so, you have there, lets say, 7 wires. Shouldn't you have each one in it's own heatshrink tube? Or you going to use that crappy tape?
@-_Robert_- oh I understand now, yeah I had 10 wores on this pigtail and I put a heatshrink tube on each wire. It's tedious work but doing it correctly pays off. I had one of the body techs offer me side work for cars he buys off copart.
@@TunerZen O!... F., I didn't see it, they are attached high sbove with the tape. Nice job!
@-_Robert_- thank you!
This will never stop TZ. American Greed is alive and well these days. The parts supply problems are just killing the BIZZ. Now with the overpriced new cars not selling, the used cars are just crazy, 150K on the clock cars and way to many thousands of dollars. Banks are reconfisting the cars from the dealers. The flat rate real problem will never go away since the employers figured out how to hose there workers. Years ago I worked in the BIZZ and quit to go into another field. I know back then I was getting SCREWED !!! Nice video too fella.
Mobile mechanic is a dead end street. Been there done that. Work at a shop and save money to open your own shop. Mobile is no go unless heavy equipment.
So I deal with ADAS, programming, wiring, and mechanical. Now mechanical doesn't pay shit. But programming and ADAS does. I've been in a shop for 7 years and honestly at this point I'm just trying to get my own thing going or do something else that's more consistent. Flat rate is still killing us cause of all the added bs
@@TunerZen good fortune bud. I was at it about 20 years. Toyota and Ford. Mechanic. Own shop. Tow trucks. Service advisor service manager final hung it up and now do construction contracting. Things have obviously changed a great deal in the industry. Again good fortune man.
Fix it
Yeah a dog keep telling yourself that😂🎉
I just go off the ROs I'm given lol
I'd fix it all in half a day and charge $600
You are generous with 600. I feel that is a bit low.
@@TunerZen I'm a generous guy :)
Its a ford, worth nothing either way.
My thoughts exactly too.
Junkyard harness
Everything's junkyard on a Ford.
Been there done that all three shredded apart at the fuse box and the harnesses were made especially for the yr only of manufacture
No I would not
Dam yeah if harness is plug n play then regular hrs rate if it’s gotta solve that clutter it’s definitely $100 hr and would take possibly 5 hrs talking about soldering it and shrinking them because I’m only doing it once and repin as them if anything it’s repin with weather proofing shrinks dude i love challenges but i forgot to charge decent price and because i can do it same if not better is always the goal…. So if i don’t want that customer to complain i would do the order harness plug n play if no other choice I’d express that even if i did all of them as same or better by looks there’s still always chance to fail later not only because length and gauge latter and PC knows that that’s where the flaws come from if didnt leaks…
The thing about working with insurance is that they don't care if its less labor to do a harness or if it looks good. They just want shit in and out. Plus I charge 1 hour up to 4 wires and .3 for each additional plus a diag fee and tooling. It's about 2k for me to do this
The answer is always yes if their wallet is big enough
I work with insurance, so yeah, they have fat wallets. Lol
Either full harness replacement or he’s gonna spend a bit for me to rewire but that’s doable
I got the green light to do the repair. I did let him know that extra diagnostic time may be needed once all is done in the event we have codes still or anything funky
It would depend on how much and how available the new harness is and what all else you have to remove the change it. More often then not its easier to repair what there so long as you make a proper repair with solder and heat shrink.
Yeah, that is a job I would be willing to do
Hell yeah. I need an excuse to use my new milwaukee soldering iron too. Lol
Good tip but what do you set your meter on?
What do you set your multi to???
Ohms
Only, cause I'm lazy... Use aftermarket products..And I don't trust my parts department..
I don't trust the parts, advisors, or any of my managers... lol
Multimeter method is preferable and the most accurate, a bad relay can still click; my fuel pump replay clicked but the resistance was shit at 44. Get a new relay and compare the resistance, you’ll get your answers easily
👍
The truck is less than a year old no?
2020. Still. I just had a 2020 durango that had swollen lugs earlier this week. American cars suck
More Honda prelude videos uploads and installation. We prelude owners need your help. Thanks.
Welcome to the results of greed is good. Nice video. I subbed.
Thank you! Greed is a big part of the industry
They will never fix warranty. The manufacturers are greedy bastards that inflate the cost of sale of the car on the front end, and pinch pennies to the techs on the back end. It's a s industry for flat rate techs.
